AIKIDO

Aikido is a modern Japanese Martial Art of self defence. It originated 80 years ago in Japan by its founder Morihei Uyeshiba. Aikido is a way of mental and physical co-ordination. In Aikido we train in a set of techniques called the Kihon. Aikido does not involve kicking or punching, instead it offers a unique approach to handling an attack. Aikido is for all ages.

KAESHI JODO

This is the art of Japanese short staff techniques. Jodo is one of the oldest forms of martial arts. Jodo can be practised by people of all ages and all levels of fitness. Kaeshi Jodo training involves practising Katas which are pre arranged forms or a series of set movements. There are 17 katas and each kata contains 25 movements, the katas can be practiced with a partner ( uke and tori ) showing the good guy against the bad guy Each kata is Sensei Micks creation on stories of Japanese history.

TAI CHI AIKI

Chi is chinese and aiki is Japanese. Both aim to achieve harmony of body movements and develop inner strength. Aiki involves practising Kata's or pre arranged movements very slowly allowing the body to relax and strengthen without the risk of strain or injury. People of all ages are encouraged to participate and it is particularly suitable for the elderly.

Female Budo Class

2016 will see the introduction of a martial arts class for females only, this class is designed for women who wish to learn and master advanced self defence techniques. The class will involve body targets, body weapons, aikido techniques, weapon work and karate.
This class will be graded twice a year and is open to all women 13 years and over.

Self Defence

We are delighted to offer women the chance to do a short 2 hour course in self defence.
This course is run every eight weeks on a Sunday afternoon.
It aims to provide you with a life skill, it teaches you techniques to protect yourself, teaches attitudes and strategies to survive an attack, teaches awareness, effective strikes, effective targets, exit strategies and much more.
This course is open to 13 years old and over, the elderly and disabled are encourage to attend.

Instructors

The principal and head Sensei of the Sakura Bana Budo is Sensei Mick he was born in 1943 and has been practicing and teaching Japanese martial arts for the past 63 years. Sensei Mick was trained by Sensei Kenshiro Abbe 10th Dan and many other Japanese masters.
Sensei Mick holds the following grades:
Judo 8th Dan, Jodo 8th Dan, Aikido 8th Dan, Kendo 4th Dan, Karate 2nd Dan, Hojo 1st Dan.
The school's assistant instructor is Sensei Emma Ferguson. Sensei Emma, is a qualified Martial Arts instructor with the Martial Arts Industry Association of Australia.
Emma holds the following grades:
5th Dan Aikido,5th Dan Jodo, 5th Dan Budo.
